Our Mission
Changing their ending—brew by brew.
We brew second chances for cats and dogs waiting behind shelter doors. With every bag, your daily ritual of coffee fuels vet care, transport, spay/neuter and adoption support.
20% of profits fund no-kill rescues, vet funds for those in need and foster networks—because every cup should help save a life.
🐾Founded in honor of our heart dogs, Shakes & Shaggy, whose stories inspire everything we do—and carried forward by the two rescue pups, Molly and Penny, who share our lives today.
Why it matters now
● In 2024, 5.8 million cats and dogs entered U.S. shelters.
● 607,000 never made it out.
● That’s 12,000 animals every day who need a path to safety.
Shelters are struggling—hit by the pandemic spay/neuter deficit, housing insecurity and rising surrender rates. In some areas, recent immigration actions have left pets suddenly abandoned.
💡It’s a good thing we love coffee, because we won’t rest until that number is zero.
Our promise
Your daily coffee becomes a lifeline—transforming small rituals into big rescue wins.
☕Your coffee. Their second chance.
MEET SHAKES AND SHAGGY
🐾Shakes’ Story
Shakes was the best boy, and Alan’s best friend. He loved chasing balls, soaking up the sun, and greeting every person and animal like a lifelong friend. But behind his joyful spirit was a medical journey that shaped our mission.
Diagnosed with intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), Shakes endured four major surgeries in two years. Thanks to Tufts Veterinary Hospital, a grant in another dog’s memory, and the kindness of family and friends, he got the care he needed. Later, at age 12, he faced lymphoma and crossed the rainbow bridge on Memorial Day 2021.
Through every challenge, Shakes taught resilience, unconditional love and the quiet courage of simply existing together. His story reminds us that many pets don’t get the chance he did. That’s why part of every bag of Shakes & Shaggy coffee helps fund veterinary care for rescue animals—so more cats and dogs can get their second chance.

🐾Shaggy's Story
Shaggy was more than a rescue dog—she was Liz's best friend. In 2008, she was saved from a kill shelter in South Carolina in a twist of fate only she could pull off: when the staff came to euthanize her, she got them to play instead. That joyful spark gave her one more day—the day she was rescued for good.
From then on, Shaggy was Liz’s sidekick. She went on book tours and attended author events, making fans everywhere she went. She had a gift for bringing people together and leaving them smiling.
Shaggy passed away far too soon from heart disease, but her spirit of joy, love and second chances lives on in every bag of coffee we sell. This company is her legacy—one that gives back to rescue animals so more dogs can get their second chance, just like she did.
Help us honor their legacies by turning your daily coffee into lifesaving care.
